Ken Walker International University

Ken Walker International University LLC was founded in 2019 with the intention to create an international university that would provide affordable, high-quality professional healthcare education in Georgia for both local Georgian students along with international students. The name of the institution is in tribute to Professor Ken Walker - Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine, Neurology and Global Health, Honorary Citizen of Georgia, The Greatest Friend of Georgia, and Emory University agreed to collaborate with Ken Walker International University LLC, which has experience and expertise in the field of medical education. Emory University has a strong reputation for excellence in healthcare education and research and is a partner of the American nongovernmental organization "Partners for International Development" (PfID), which has implemented numerous medical education projects in Georgia. KWIU and Emory University have agreed on a collaboration that will include joint educational and training programs/learning courses, external evaluation of educational programs, support with new teaching methods, particularly in regard to an integrated MD program, a clinical clerkship in US sites, and opportunities for exchange programs for staff and students. KWIU have a strong commitment to uphold the values and examples set by Professor Ken Walker to offer affordable high-quality health care education and focusing on both medical education and public health as key areas for research and development will lead to graduates able to serve the needs of both their patients and their populations.

Requirements

Persons who have a high school or equivalent education and have passed the Unified National Admission  Exams and are in possession of the relevant certificate are eligible for admission to the  program. Also, admission requirements include results from Unified National Admission Exams, in prioritized  subjects with their appropriate grades predetermined by the university. 
The required grade for English language for Georgian citizens is 85%, in Georgian language, Biology,  Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics – 70. 
The right to study without passing Unified National Exams on the program is determined bythe Law on Higher  Education - Article 52. Paragraph 3. Specifically: 
Due to supporting prospective students and students’ needs formability, studying in educational institutions  without passing Unified National Exams is governed by the regulations of the Ministry of Education and  Science of Georgia in a predetermined period. Students eligible for National Exam waiver must belong to one of  the following groups:

a. Foreign citizens and non-citizens who have received full high school or equivalent education abroad;

b. Georgian citizens who have received full high school or equivalent education abroad and completed the last 2 years in a foreign, English Speaking country;

c. Persons who study/studied and have accumulated *ECTS credits from a foreign country’s high educational institution recognized in accordance with the legislation of the country.

Enrolling in the program through the mobility process is permitted after the completion of one academic year of study. Mobility is possible twice a year, in the periods established by the Ministry of the Education and Science of Georgia, compulsory procedures approved by the Act of the Director of National Centre for Educational Quality Enhancement and in accordance with the rules established by the University.

Living

A ticket for public transport vehicles (Bus and Metro) cost 0.50 gel ($0.20) for everyone. However, students with "students cards" pay only 0.20 gel ($0.09) for a ticket. Each ticket is valid for 1:30hr. Within the 1:30hr validity frame, a ticket holder can enter any public vehicle for free with the ticket card.

Yandex and Taxify exist in major Georgian cities fr everyone who prefers to use taxi's. Taxis charge about 5Gel ($20) for a 7km journey. And cars are affordable for those who prefer to vehicle while studying in georgia. 

We recommend students to udget around $300-$500 per month for accmodation in Tbilisi city centre and $200-350 for accomodation outside Tbilisi.
